Santarcangelo-Rimini-San Leo
The Valmarecchia, located in Emilia-Romagna, more precisely on the border with Marche and Tuscany. Characterized by the presence of fortresses, castles and old villages, it is an area rich in beauty both from a naturalistic and socio-cultural point of view. It has hosted important names in Italian history such as Federico Fellini, Dante, Piero della Francesca, San Francesco, Ezra Pound…
During this tour, we turn our attention to SANTARCANGELO di Romagna, the city of artists. Considered the “gateway to the Valmarecchia” because it is located on the first hill you come across, Colle Giove, 10 km from Rimini.
Although small, it is a lively town full of history and is perfectly located because it is well connected (also by public transport) to various destinations. Surrounded by beautiful hills, it is connected to the Marecchia river cycle path from Rimini to Novafeltria.
Interestingly, it is the birthplace of the name of Sangiovese wine.
You will stay in a country house of a famous wine grower, amid the greenery of vineyards and olive groves. An excellent place to taste extra virgin olive oil and wines directly from the 3 hectares of vineyards and 1100 olive trees. Together with an expertise guide, you will discover on for the surroundings of Sant’Arcangelo.
The cuisine of Emilia-Romagna is known and praised worldwide. Who does not know the tasty tortellini in broth and the tagliatelle al ragù. Not to mention the gnocco fritto accompanied by excellent cold meats and a tasty plate of lasagna alla Bolognese. An important rule is to accompany everything with a good glass of wine.
It is important to arrive by car to enjoy this trip to the fullest, for the various transfers and the possibility to visit interesting places, such as San Marino or to enjoy some relaxation by the sea with a tasty fish lunch. Delicious meals, wines from the winery and a cooking course add a gourmet touch to this trip.
The daily program of the 5-day tour
After check-in, the afternoon is dedicated to the Tour of Optimism in Santarcangelo di Romagna. Accompanied by a local guide, you will discover the origins and geological features of the territory, listening to stories and legends related to the history, traditions, and notable figures who shaped the identity of the village. The itinerary explores the Romagna countryside, passing through orchards and along the Uso River, reaching the Colle Giove, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view. The tour continues through the narrow streets and staircases of the historic center, visiting the main landmarks: Rocca Malatestiana, Torre Civica, Arco di Papa Clemente, Sferisterio, the murals by Eron, and the fountains by Tonino Guerra.The visit also includes the Santarcangelo hypogea and the Antico Mangano workshop, dating back to 1632. The tour concludes with a return to the accommodation.

After breakfast, meet your guide and depart for San Leo by private car. Upon arrival, begin a circular hike on the Monti Tausani, immersed in a stunning landscape. From the top of Monte San Severino, enjoy a 360° panoramic view stretching from the inland hills to the Adriatic coast.
Along the route, you will encounter the scenic “Renaissance views”, panoramic spots that, according to tradition, inspired some backgrounds in the paintings of Piero della Francesca. The walk continues along the ancient Via Maestra, which for centuries was the only connection to Rimini, until reaching the Convento di Sant’Igne, where Saint Francis found refuge in 1213.
At Sant’Igne, you can enjoy a packed lunch, or return by car to San Leo for lunch in one of the local restaurants. In the afternoon, there is the opportunity for a self-guided visit of the Fortress of San Leo

Rimini by bike
After breakfast, meet your guide, collect the bicycles, and depart towards Rimini. Along the route, you can admire the Pieve di San Michele Arcangelo, before joining the Marecchia River cycle path. You will reach the Mutonia community, a unique creative space featuring an art exhibition made from recycled materials. Upon arrival in Rimini, you will pass the Ponte di Tiberio and Borgo San Giuliano, famous for its murals dedicated to Federico Fellini. At the beach, enjoy free time to relax by the sea and have lunch independently. In the afternoon, a cycling tour continues through Rimini’s historic center, visiting the Arco di Augusto, Mercato Coperto, Tempio Malatestiano, Domus del Chirurgo, Piazza Cavour with the Antica Pescheria, Palazzo dell’Arengo, and finally Castel Sismondo, the historic residence of the Malatesta family, rulers of Rimini. In the evening, return to Santarcangelo along the same Marecchia River cycle path.

Excursion to Montebello.
After arriving in Montebello by car, set out for a circular hike to the Santuario della Madonna di Saiano, returning afterwards along the Sentiero dei Gessaroli. During the walk, the guide will share the legend of the Montebello castle, said to be inhabited by the mysterious ghost of Azzurrina, the daughter of the feudal lord who disappeared on June 21, 1375, as well as the story of the plaster statue of the Madonna, which, according to tradition, refused to be moved from the sanctuary chapel. At the end of the hike, it will be possible to stop in the village independently to enjoy a packed lunch or taste local specialties in one of the two traditional trattorias.

Late in the morning: cooking class (tagliatelle and/or piadina) followed by lunch.
Our azdore, the grandmothers and queens of Romagna cuisine, will teach you how to prepare tagliatelle or a piadina to perfection. Afterwards, enjoy a tour of the estate, exploring its vineyards and olive groves, and visit the winery, followed by a lunch featuring the dishes prepared by the guests.
